27mm Lug Nut Indicators for Dexter 10K Trailer Axles
Torque-Tight™ 27mm lug nut indicators are purpose-built for Dexter 10,000 lb trailer axles and also fit 1-1/16" lug nuts found on Ford tapered applications, courier vehicles, and select school buses. Because 27mm is a less common size, we recommend confirming your lug nut diameter with a caliper or socket before ordering.
Torque-Tight™ indicators are more than 2x the size of competing products, making loose nut detection immediate and unmistakable during any walkaround inspection. When a nut backs off, the indicator rotates out of alignment — visible in seconds without tools, bending down, or removing wheel covers. Independent UV and weathering durability testing by Element Materials Technology (ISO 17025 accredited lab, ASTM G154-23 Cycle 1, 500 hours) confirmed Torque-Tight™ maintained an AATCC color rating of 4.5–5.0 throughout — compared to the leading competitor, which dropped to 2.5 by 288 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size lug nut indicator fits a Dexter 10K trailer axle?
Dexter 10,000 lb axles use a 27mm lug nut. The Torque-Tight™ 27mm indicator is the correct fit and also accommodates the equivalent 1-1/16" lug nut used on some Ford and courier applications.
Are 27mm and 1-1/16" lug nuts the same size?
They are nearly identical. 27mm is approximately 1.063" and 1-1/16" is 1.0625" — close enough that a single indicator fits both. Torque-Tight™ 27mm indicators are die-cut to accommodate both hex sizes.
How do lug nut indicators work?
Lug nut indicators are installed over each lug nut and aligned to point in the same direction when properly torqued. During a standard walkaround inspection, any indicator that has rotated out of alignment signals a potentially loose nut — allowing the driver or technician to identify and address it before wheel-off failure occurs.
How long do Torque-Tight™ indicators last outdoors?
Torque-Tight™ indicators were independently tested by Element Materials Technology, an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, per ASTM G154-23 Cycle 1 (UV and condensation cycling). After 500 hours of accelerated weathering, Torque-Tight™ maintained an AATCC color retention rating throughout. The leading competing product dropped to 2.5/5.0 by 288 hours. For reference, 500 lab hours represents approximately 1–2 years of real-world outdoor exposure depending on geography and climate.
What sizes does Torque-Tight™ offer?
Torque-Tight™ lug nut indicators are available in 13/16", 21mm, 22mm, 27mm, 32mm, 33mm, and 38mm to cover the full range of commercial trailer, truck, and transit applications.

Why Fleets Choose Torque-Tight
- Made in the USA with consistent molding quality
- Injection-molded for precise fit and long life
- Color is molded through the part, never painted
- UV-stable polyethylene resists fading and cracking
- 1/8 inch thick for durability and secure fit
- Two-year warranty
How Drivers & Technicians Use Them
- Install all indicators pointing the same direction.
- During pre-trip, look for any indicator rotated outward.
- Any rotation indicates a lug nut requiring immediate service.
Temperature & Environment Performance
Torque-Tight indicators are molded from a high-performance LDPE resin designed for long-term outdoor use. The material remains stable across brake heat cycles, winter cold, UV exposure, and chemical contact.
- Operating environment: −40°F to over 250°F
- Short-duration heat tolerance well above typical brake drum temperatures
- UV-stable colorant prevents fading
- Resistant to oils, grease, salt, and de-icer chemicals
Why We Don’t Use Biodegradable Plastics
Some indicator brands use biodegradable or oxo-degradable plastics. These materials are not recommended for heavy truck environments because they can lose strength when exposed to sunlight, heat, vibration, and road chemicals.
A wheel-end safety device should not degrade outdoors. Torque-Tight indicators use an engineering-grade LDPE chosen for durability, long service life, and consistent performance.

Easy to install, simple, and quick. Best way to save thousands of dollars in tires.
Thanks for finding the black torque tight flags. I had bought the whole set for my bus conversion and lost or (?) one, thanks again tom...
We use these on f 550 and they are the only loose wheel indicators that we have found that we can still check torque on the lug nuts without removing the indicators. And they stay on no matter what kind of areas we drive through.
Super fast shipping...item as describe...thanks
Easy application, easiest thing I purchased for my mechanic to do.
